Changing the world, one child at a time.
52,000 books and counting...

The greatest gift is the passion for reading.
It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites.
It gives you knowledge of the world and experience
of a wide kind. It is a moral illumination.

Our Mission

The mission of the Alyssa Cares Foundation is to inspire and encourage
a life-long excitement and passion for literacy by putting books in the hands
and homes of children in need.

Alyssa loved to read and from that passion, she provided us many memories from her own writings and illustrations of short stories and poems. We hope to pass on her passion to as many children as we can, especially those in need, who held a special place in Alyssa's heart.

A Note From Joe & Carole
Hemmelgarn:

"The Alyssa Cares Foundation is no longer accepting donations, as we have decided to end our operation after 15 years. Like many others, issues with COVID have made it difficult, to nearly impossible, for us to personally visit the elementary schools and spend time sharing Alyssa's love of reading with the children. We have been honored and humbled by your support over these years."
